You Can Keep This Christmas

Done with this Christmas. Fifty percent off sales, candy canes, and sleigh bells are all nice, but you can keep this Christmas. I’ve had my share of gingerbread scents, color beaming lights, and pine trees with jewelry. It’s amazing how one of the most selfless holidays has turned to be the most materialistic and stressful seasons of the entire year.  Families feud over the latest tech toys while jumping over racks on racks. Spending stacks on stacks that dissolve a month’s salary; hoping to stay with the trend of latest and greatest. I’m amazed that this holiday was once about an unrelenting might of a Man who loved us more than an Xbox 360 ever would.

Isaiah 9:6

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

He is the Prince of Peace, not chaos, long lines, and evaporating bank accounts. Although this date is not the exact time of birth for Jesus, it is in place as a national observance and celebration of said birth. The Author of time, life, and love is worthy to be praised, honored, and glorified.

Not just on one day, but every day.

In a world full of distractions and new waves of trendsetting stigmas, Jesus is the same today, yesterday, forevermore (Hebrews 13:8).  As believers we should remain steadfast and immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord; knowing that your labor is not in vain(1 Corinthian 15:58). Unlike the iPhone 3 which was once cool years ago, followers of Christ don’t go out with the trends. We are the trend. The standards set in reference to character and integrity are of the highest degree when comparing it to a Holy God.

So this Christmas, America can keep. Christ is worthy of being glorified with honor and glory.  No need for wrapping paper and bows.
